Cultured pearls can seem to be a bit confusing. The Process of cultivating pearls was first developed in 1893. Natural pearls rarely are seen on the market today. Cultured pearls are your option when shopping for pearls.
There are two options, freshwater or saltwater. Freshwater cultured pearls today are the most popular due to their lower cost. A freshwater pearl can be cultivated in about 3-4 months, vs. salt water takes 2-3 years. The overall quality between the two is close.
This strand is 18" long and consists of freshwater cultured pearls ranging in diameter from 7mm to 6.5mm in diameter. The luster is very good, giving it a beautiful polished look. The blemishes are minor and difficult to see.
