Hugh Harby entered the family business in 1979 after graduating from the University of Florida. He then received his Graduate Gemologist Earned in Residence degree from the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, CA. At the time, he was one of the first in Jacksonville to hold that title. He is a member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers. Hugh and Cindy were married in 1979 and have two children and four grandchildren.
Brad Harby, son of Hugh, joined Harby Jewelers of Jacksonville in 2006 after graduating from the University of Central Florida. He also received his Graduate Gemologist Earned in Residence degree from the Gemological Institute of America in their new location, Carlsbad, CA. Brad and Sharlie were married in 2006 and have two children.
The original company was founded four generations ago in 1926 by the Harby family. In 1962, was business merged with Meyerson Jewelers to form Harby and Meyerson Jewelers. The Meyerson family extends back to the 1800s in Jacksonville.
In the late 1960s, Herbert Meyerson sold his share, and the company changed its name to G. A. Harby Jewelers, Inc. When Hugh Harby came aboard in 1979, the name was then shortened to Harby Jewelers.
In 2006, Hugh's son Brad joined Harby Jewelers to become the 4th generation in Harby Jewelers, now known as Harby Jewelers of Jacksonville.
