Frequently Asked Questions About Jewelry Appraisals

FAQ's About Jewelry Appraisals

  1. How much will a jewelry appraisal cost?
The cost depends on the scope of the work. There will be no charge if the jewelry is purchased from Harby Jewelers. Our standard fee is $100 per item if the jewelry is dropped off at our Jacksonville store. However, for larger groups of jewelry or groups that contain pieces that are quicker and easier to do, the fee can be less.

  2. How long will an appraisal take if I leave the jewelry?
Items left for appraisal are typically done as fast as possible. For two or three pieces, we can often have them the same day or the next day. Larger groups will take longer, but we always prioritize finishing appraisal work as soon as possible.

  3. Can I wait while you do the jewelry appraisal in front of me
Yes. If you are more comfortable with that, set up an appointment and we would be happy to perform the jewelry appraisal in front of you. This option is $150 per item. There is a limit on the number of pieces we can appraise in one appointment. We will only allow a total of 2 hours at one time. The number of items we can complete within two hours is determined by how complicated each piece is. Some articles only take about 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Others take 30-45 minutes to complete.

  4. Is jewelry insured while in your possession?
Yes, our insurance covers jewelry in our possession for both appraisals and repairs.

  5. Will you inspect the jewelry to determine if any necessary repairs are needed?
Each item is cleaned and inspected for repairs. We will advise you if we see anything that needs repair. If it does, we provide jewelry repair services if required.
